We are pleased to announce that we are running a Marketing on a Budget / Social Networking workshop on Thursday 11th July, which will is potentially part funded by the European Social Fund through the Welsh Government and costing from £42 per person for SME’s with less than 250 employees and £70 for businesses with more than 250 employees instead of the normal price of £140. The aims of the workshop is to bring you and your business up to speed with the must have social media channels to allow you to tap into the endless opportunities to grab new customers, increase sales and engage with them to build brand loyalty so they keep coming back for more repeat business. Last year our second summer festival was held in Blackwood High Street. Traders, funfair rides, music, dance and children’s costumed characters all took to the high street delivering a fun packed family themed event, which attracted thousands of visitors. Due to its success it’s back again for 2013 but this year it’s bigger and better. Children and the young at heart will be descending on the town centre to meet up with some of TV’s most popular characters. Thrown into the mix will be some high quality children’s funfair rides, music, street entertainment, food and craft stalls as well as Punch and Judy, children’s workshops and face painting.

Charity walk and funday with Ruth Jones, star of “Stella” and Gavin and Stacey’s “Nessa”

Welsh TV star Ruth Jones who is most recently known for her the main character in hit comedy Stella and previously as Nessa in Gavin and Stacey is set to lead the charity one mile walk in in of the “Lullaby Trust” to raise awareness and funds for Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths (FSID). The charity walk is set to start off 11am on Saturday 11th May from the Fly in Bedwas with Ruth being on hand to sign autographs and have pictures taken from 10am.   The charity walk will then be followed by live entertainment including games, toy stalls, a barbecue and performances from the young street dance world champions from Ebbw Vale, Kemistry, Louise Hall, one of Wales’ top female vocalists, and contributions from many other professional artists. The charity was set up by Allison Hall in memory of her son that she lost suddenly 24 years ago. Tickets for the event will cost £4 with proceeds going to the Lullaby Trust and it is hoped that this years event will smash last year’s £6,000 raised for the charity with £1,200 being raised already in last weeks charity bike ride.

The second Caerphilly Food Festival is pulling out all the stops to make it an event to remember, and one that will draw visitors from near and far! This year, when the festival comes to town on Saturday 4 May, to ensure that the event reaches its full potential, following a high footfall in 2012, which was aided by the Olympic Torch Relay, celebrity chef Jean Christophe Novelli will be onsite for the duration of the event to add some European culinary skills into the mix. The well known chef, who has a 5 out of 5 AA Rosette and Michelin star to his name, will be on hand at the Caerphilly Food Festival to carry out cookery demonstrations throughout the day and will also give visitors an opportunity for autograph and book signings. Dubbed “the nations favourite French chef”, Caerphilly cannot wait to welcome Jean Christophe Novelli into town! As well as the cookery demonstration programme, the event will include over 60 stalls, farmers market, animal displays, children’s activities and lots more. Cllr Ken James, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Sustainable Development said, “This excellent event promises to offer a vast array of culinary delights and fun for all the family. Set in the heart of Caerphilly town centre, I would encourage as many people to come along and enjoy this event as possible”. Caerphilly Challenge Series 2013 – The Ridgeway hiking event on 11th May 2013

Following on from the success of last years event Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Countryside and Landscape Service, in conjunction with Bedwas High School, Caerphilly Adventure Group, Ramblers Cymru and other partners, are once again throwing down a challenge to walkers of all abilities. The main challenge is not for the faint hearted and will challenge most experienced hikers with a 22 mile trek called “The Ridgeway” but don’t be put off if you love the outdoors and want to set yourself a challenge however small. There are walks and hikes to suit people of all abilities and ages starting with a 1 mile scenic route along the banks of the Rhymney River. The Caerphilly Challenge Series 2013 takes place on 11th May and you can find out more information or book a place on the event by going to The Countryside and Landscape Service website.

Following on from the success of last years St David’s Day lunchtime concerts, residents are being invited to come along and join in the celebrations at this year’s events. On Friday 1st March, outdoor concerts will take place in Bargoed Emporium Car Park Blackwood Asda (Dragon Circle) Twyn Car Park in Caerphilly Tredegar Park in Risca. All concerts will start at 12 noon. More than 20 local schools will join in the celebration of Welsh history, heritage and language, with performances of traditional folk dancing, singing, recitals and brass and orchestral ensembles. Residents and visitors can also enjoy local community groups including Stagecoach Theatre Arts who will be performing at the events, along with street theatre and giveaways also adding to the mix. Cllr Harry Andrews, Leader of the Council said, “I would encourage as many people as possible to come together and join us as we celebrate the traditional Welsh culture and heritage on the day of Wales’ patron saint”. An abundance of free entertainment from schools, community groups and also ‘Welsh-themed’ stilt walkers will provide an afternoon of entertainment for all. There will also be free entry to Caerphilly Castle on 1 March Each of the lunchtime concerts will conclude with a rousing rendition of the Welsh National Anthem – so why not come along and join in and show we are proud to be Welsh!
