Christmas Market

Caerphilly Christmas Market will be returning to the town centre on Saturday 12th & Sunday 13th December.

In order to facilitate the event, Cardiff Road will be closed to vehicular traffic between its junctions with Clive Street, Pentrebane Street, Stockland Street, St. Fagans Street and Park Lane will take place from midnight on Friday 11th December until 21:00 on Sunday 13th December.

No vehicles, other than event participants and emergency vehicles, will be permitted access to road closure areas on the above dates and times.

Retailers who do not have rear lane access to their premises should arrange for any deliveries required for the event weekend to be made prior to midnight on Friday 11th, or between 04:30 & 07:00 on Saturday 12th, or between 04:30 & 08:00 on Sunday 13th.

Choose the High Street – Christmas

We would like to say a big thank you to all of the retailers who took part in the Choose the High Street Christmas Voucher Booklet.

This year, we have received 105 offers – the highest number yet!

The vouchers will be valid from 16th November to 31st December across the five managed towns of Bargoed, Blackwood, Caerphilly, Risca and Ystrad Mynach; there are also some offers from businesses outside the town centres too.

In Caerphilly, people can collect their free voucher booklet from the Library, Caerphilly Visitors’ Centre, The Malcolm Uphill and in the foyer of Morrisons. Voucher booklets will also be given away at all of the Council’s Christmas events and via local schools.

To promote the scheme, there will be newspaper adverts in several local publications, along with information on the Council’s website and social media pages. In addition, retailers who have submitted offers will be sent a poster to display in their window, which will also help to raise awareness of the campaign.

Park Lane Development

The Council has recently undertaken a “Development Appraisal Study” of the Park Lane site through property consultants DTZ.

Early in the New Year, Officers will be using the report’s findings to compile a series of options, which will help shape the future of the site.

Temporary Grit Bins

In preparation for the winter, we have had temporary yellow grit bins placed throughout the town centre.

Consumer Rights Act 2015

The main parts of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 (CRA) came into force on 1st October 2015.

The CRA replaces a number of laws with regard to business-to-consumer transactions, including the Sale of Goods Act 1979 and the Supply of Goods and Services Act 1982. It will be clearer and easier to understand, meaning that consumers can buy and businesses can sell to them with confidence.

The changes are relevant to every business that sells directly to consumers.The new law makes it clear what should happen when goods or digital content are faulty, or when services are not provided with reasonable care and skill.

To help businesses and consumers, the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills has developed a plain English summary of the key elements of the Act. This ‘consumer rights summary’ is not intended to be a comprehensive guide to consumer rights, but rather a general overview of the key rights, focusing on the most common issues.

Caerphilly Pub Watch

Caerphilly Pub Watch has been developed to improve the town’s night time economy and is a partnership between Gwent Police, local Licensees of pubs and clubs in the town and Caerphilly County Borough Council.

There are now 9 pubs part of Pub Watch online in Caerphilly, which all promote safe and responsible drinking. Bans can be given for abusive behaviour towards customers and staff, or criminal behaviour and vary in length from one month to life.

Christmas Waste Collection

The Christmas waste collection days will be as follows. Please ensure that all waste and recycling is ready for collection by 06:00.

Commercial Recycling Services

All businesses have a legal duty to dispose of their waste through a registered waste contractor, such as Caerphilly Council, and to separate waste for recycling.

CCBC encourages businesses to recycle by offering recycling collections at half the cost of general waste.

We also cater for smaller businesses that do not produce much waste by offering “Trade Recycling Sacks”. These are half the cost of “Trade Refuse Sacks” at £43.27 per roll. A roll can be purchased from a Customer First centre. Refuse and recycling sacks can also be purchased if you would like to put out additional waste over the Christmas period.
