Jean Christophe Novelli
Oh la la!! French Celebrity Chef is on his way to Caerphilly! The second Caerphilly Food Festival is pulling out all the stops to make it an event to remember, and one that will draw visitors from near and far! This year, when the festival comes to town on Saturday 4th May, to ensure that the event reaches its full potential, following a high footfall in 2012, which was aided by the Olympic Torch Relay, celebrity chef Jean Christophe Novelli will be onsite for the duration of the event to add some European culinary skills into the mix. The well known chef, who has a 5 out of 5 AA Rosette and Michelin star to his name, will be on hand at the Caerphilly Food Festival to carry out cookery demonstrations throughout the day and will also give visitors an opportunity for autograph and book signings. Dubbed “the nation’s favourite French chef”, Caerphilly cannot wait to welcome Jean Christophe Novelli into town! As well as the cookery demonstration programme, the event will include over 60 stalls, farmers market, animal displays, children’s activities and lots more. Cllr Ken James, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning and Sustainable Development said, “This excellent event promises to offer a vast array of culinary delights and fun for all the family. Set in the heart of Caerphilly town centre, I would encourage as many people to come along and enjoy this event as possible”. Caerphilly is cooking up a storm on Saturday 4th May 2013 between 10:00am – 5:00pm. Miss it and certainly miss out!! For further information on the Caerphilly Food Festival, please call 029 20 88…

Short term family accommodation unveiled in Caerphilly Town Centre A state of the art facility has been unveiled in Caerphilly Town Centre to provide temporary accommodation to 13 families who are having problems with housing. Acorn House – or Ty’r Fesen – aims to provide short term accommodation for families who find themselves homeless and supports them into more permanent housing. The facility boasts 13 family rooms, including two units which have been specifically designed to accommodate wheelchair users. The facility, located on the site of the former Encon engineering works in the heart of Caerphilly town centre, forms part of a wider flagship development consisting of an additional 16 much needed new homes. Acorn House not only delivers outstanding accommodation and communal facilities including a crèche area and gardens, but also offers essential life skills classes such as budgeting and cooking; helping prepare and support the families it houses for moving on in to more permanent accommodation. Acorn House has been developed in partnership between Caerphilly County Borough Council and United Welsh. The facility was officially opened this week by Leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council, Cllr Harry Andrews and Chair of United Welsh, Ian Gilbert.   Read the whole story about the new short term accommodation at the Caerphilly Borough Council website.
