Following on from the success of last years St David’s Day lunchtime concerts, residents are being invited to come along and join in the celebrations at this year’s events. On Friday 1st March, outdoor concerts will take place in Bargoed Emporium Car Park Blackwood Asda (Dragon Circle) Twyn Car Park in Caerphilly Tredegar Park in Risca. All concerts will start at 12 noon. More than 20 local schools will join in the celebration of Welsh history, heritage and language, with performances of traditional folk dancing, singing, recitals and brass and orchestral ensembles. Residents and visitors can also enjoy local community groups including Stagecoach Theatre Arts who will be performing at the events, along with street theatre and giveaways also adding to the mix. Cllr Harry Andrews, Leader of the Council said, “I would encourage as many people as possible to come together and join us as we celebrate the traditional Welsh culture and heritage on the day of Wales’ patron saint”. An abundance of free entertainment from schools, community groups and also ‘Welsh-themed’ stilt walkers will provide an afternoon of entertainment for all. There will also be free entry to Caerphilly Castle on 1 March Each of the lunchtime concerts will conclude with a rousing rendition of the Welsh National Anthem – so why not come along and join in and show we are proud to be Welsh!
