Come and discover Caerphilly Castle as you’ve never seen it before! Spend an evening in the company of our Castle Knight, help write an exclusive story with local author Simone Greenwood and make a lantern to take on an evening tour of the castle to learn about those that lived here and those who may not have left. Settle round the fireplace in the Great Hall to hear one last tale before heading out into the night. Have you ever wondered what life was like in the largest castle in Wales? Join us at Caerphilly Castle on Friday 17th June – and learn about those that lived there, and those that may not have left. Children over the age of 7 are welcome at this event – please bring suitable clothing and footwear for a tour around the castle. Girls Who Rule the World – Workshops for Young Women @ GoConnect

GoConnect are running a series of programmes throughout the summer to help young people aged 16-25 identify with their employment aspirations and develop their skills with the support of passionate and motivated professionals in the business community. Over two weeks they will take part in a variety of workshops and activities to help raise awareness of new career paths and develop the skills and experiences needed to achieve their goals. The programme is run from the heart of a thriving business and innovation centre in Caerphilly and delivered by a range of businesses and entrepreneurs who are best placed to offer their experience and knowledge to help others. The next programme will start on Tuesday 5th July and is a female only initiative aimed at those who are currently not engaging with education, training or employment or are looking for a change of direction. The course will be totally free and we are able to refund transport costs (up to £4 per day) with breakfast and lunch also provided. Join Caerphilly Business Forum at The Celt Experience for a brewery tour and sampling session. “With a home-brewing background from an age that was a bit naughty, beer sommelier Tom Newman, born of Welsh blood, gave up his day job in 2003 to take brewing seriously… well, as seriously as Tom can get anyway. Tom worked as a trainee at Butcome brewery as a 17 year old in 1992, but began his commercial exploration from his dad’s garage in 2003. Tom learnt quickly by trial and error but was blessed with some good fortune along the way, like being able to buy up the majority of the sadly defunct Smile’s kit in Bristol. Soon after creating Newman’s, Tom decided to let it go quietly into the night and returned to his ancestral roots by launching the Celt brand, which consisted of Celt Golden, Bronze and Bleddyn. Originally, all organically brewed, Tom found himself hampered by organic ingredients in an ever expanding craft beer landscape and decided to start experimenting with all kinds of malts and hops and in 2011, he dropped the organic mantra and the brewery has gone from strength to strength and has welcomed the addition of the on-going Shapeshifter series of collaboration brews, as well as the high ABV Ogham series to the roster. In 2013 Cell Rebirth was launched by the team at Celt to explore the use of indigenous yeast and bacteria to develop Welsh farmhouse beers using local produce. Free workshop to help businesses reduce costs Calculate the value of your waste, and develop a tailored action plan to help you prevent waste, and cut costs. You’re invited to join Caerphilly County Borough Councils Economic Development Team, and resource efficiency experts WRAP Cymru for a free 90 minute workshop specifically designed to help businesses reduce the amount of raw materials used, minimise waste and maximise recycling. Through structured presentation, exercises, and case study examples you’ll learn what simple measures you can adopt to reduce your resource use and develop a plan which you can take back to your business to implement. You’ll also have the opportunity to talk about your business’ needs with a WRAP Cymru Client Manager and learn more about additional support available through the Welsh Government’s Resource Efficient Wales service. The workshop will take place on Thursday 25th February 2016, at Tredomen Business & Technology Centre at 8:30am for registration and 9:00am start. Any Caerphilly County Borough business can register to attend, although places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis.
