Children can make a range of Easter Crafts including crackers filled with goodies, Easter Bonnets and Rabbit Food. At 1.30pm each day there will be an Easter Bonnet Parade for children to display their beautiful creations. The manor house gardens will be full of the joys of spring with a gaggle of baby farm animals for visitors to meet. Following on from the success of last years event Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Countryside and Landscape Service, in conjunction with Bedwas High School, Caerphilly Adventure Group, Ramblers Cymru and other partners, are once again throwing down a challenge to walkers of all abilities. The main challenge is not for the faint hearted and will challenge most experienced hikers with a 22 mile trek called “The Ridgeway” but don’t be put off if you love the outdoors and want to set yourself a challenge however small. There are walks and hikes to suit people of all abilities and ages starting with a 1 mile scenic route along the banks of the Rhymney River. The Caerphilly Challenge Series 2013 takes place on 11th May and you can find out more information or book a place on the event by going to The Countryside and Landscape Service website.

Caerphilly Medieval Christmas Fayre

On 8th and 9th December foodies will be in their element as the annual Christmas Medieval Christmas Fayre fills Caerphilly town centre and castle with stands overflowing with seasonal produce fit for a king’s table.  Visitors can browse the medieval market, filled with authentic traders, or sup ale in the medieval tavern.  Watch out for the pickpockets, beggars, scoundrels and thieves, join in with the hue and cry and when one is caught it’s the stocks for them! As the spirit of a medieval Christmas settles on Caerphilly’s unique and colourful town, there will be an abundance of attractions for visitors of all ages to see.  Food and craft stalls line the high street and castle walls, with over 120 high quality traders displaying their wares.  Fun activities and entertainment will enhance the annual fayre bringing fantastic colour and excitement to Caerphilly town.   Standard admission charges apply on entrance to the castle, one of the Great Medieval castles of Western Europe, although much of the entertainment around the town is free.  This event is growing every year with visitors from near an far, so make sure you join in the fun!
