Free business waste workshop to help reduce costs @ Tredomen Business & Technology Centre
Free workshop to help businesses reduce costs Calculate the value of your waste, and develop a tailored action plan to help you prevent waste, and cut costs. You’re invited to join Caerphilly County Borough Councils Economic Development Team, and resource efficiency experts WRAP Cymru for a free 90 minute workshop specifically designed to help businesses reduce the amount of raw materials used, minimise waste and maximise recycling. Through structured presentation, exercises, and case study examples you’ll learn what simple measures you can adopt to reduce your resource use and develop a plan which you can take back to your business to implement. You’ll also have the opportunity to talk about your business’ needs with a WRAP Cymru Client Manager and learn more about additional support available through the Welsh Government’s Resource Efficient Wales service. The workshop will take place on Thursday 25th February 2016, at Tredomen Business & Technology Centre at 8:30am for registration and 9:00am start. Any Caerphilly County Borough business can register to attend, although places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Caerphilly 10k Run @ Caerphilly Castle
The Caerphilly 10k returns on Sunday 19th June – and entry prices are frozen until 31st January! The start and finish line are located off Crescent Road, behind Caerphilly Castle, marked by a gantry. The event, which is the third most popular 10k event in Wales, just behind Cardiff and Swansea, attracted close to 2,000 participants last year, and leads participants in and around Caerphilly town centre – passing local landmarks including the Tommy Cooper statue along the way and offering great views of the wonderful castle. Also returning is the Caerphilly 2k run, offering younger runners a chance to get involved in this timed event. Participants must be at least 8 on the day of the event in order to participate. Entry fees are £16.50 for unaffiliated entrants, £14.50 for affiliated/Welsh Athletics entrants, £14.50 for concessions (over 60’s and wheelchair users) and £6.50 for 2k runners. All fees include booking fee and transaction charges. Cllr Nigel George said: “The Caerphilly 10k continues to be one of our most popular events, and has grown substantially in popularity since the inaugural event in 2013. It is an event which attracts people from right across the country to participate and really helps to showcase all that Caerphilly has to offer to people from far and wide. Iolo Williams: Welsh Rarebit @ Blackwood Miners’ Institute
Iolo Williams takes us on a wildlife tour of his Welsh homeland from mountain tops to seashore. On the way we meet disco-dancing black grouse, the Lamborghini of the bird world, Britain’s largest spider and a sex-changing fish. Iolo is Wales’ best-known naturalist and his witty, enthusiastic and friendly style is sure to please budding naturalists of all ages. Iolo has presented more than 25 series in English and Welsh for S4C and BBC. Although most of his work is screened in Wales, he has appeared on network series such as Visions of Snowdonia (1997), Birdman (1999), Countryfile (2001) and Nature’s Top 40 (2008). He has recently completed a landmark series on the landscape of Wales called ‘Tir Cymru’ for S4C and is currently working on a series on Birds for BBC Wales and a series on Welsh Wildlife for BBC 2 network. Big Garden Bird Watch 2016
Parc Penallta will play host to the Big Garden Bird Watch 2016 – a fantastic event for keen bird lovers who want to see a range of birds up close on Saturday 30th January from 10am until 2pm. Visitors can take part in bird ringing sessions, make bird feeders and explore the beauty of Parc Penallta with expert bird spotters. There will also be an arts and crafts session during the event. Entry is free, however there is a small charge of £3 to make a bird feeder. Hot refreshments are available within the park. Please ensure that suitable clothing is worn. Craft sessions @ Llancaiach Fawr
Come along to Llancaiach Fawr on Saturday 30th January for a jewellery making taster course which will kick start a series of craft sessions for adults running throughout April. Booking your place is important. The session costs £17.50 per person and gives craft lovers the opportunity to make beautiful pieces of jewellery during the tutorial. Quilting, carving cawl spoons, sugarcraft sessions, wire based jewellery and a blacksmithing session to make your own toasting fork will provide hours of creativity during the month of April for those who would like to have a go at learning a new skill. Prices range from £25 per person to £35 per person for each class for 4 hours tuition, including tea and coffee.
