RecRock is looking for unemployed people 16+ not on the work programme who are interested in music and media from Caerphilly.   Whether you are the next Dave Grohl or Stephen Spielberg, we want to help you achieve your dreams of creating a career for yourself in the creative industries. Singers, instrumentals, rappers, producers, photographers, script writers, audio editors all welcome. No experience necessary even if you just want to try your hand and make some new friends. The course runs over 8 weeks at Caerphilly Business Park, and aims to give people a realistic work experience in which we will learn to play an instrument, make a short film, put on a concert, art projects, written and recorded an original song. Following on from the course we will find volunteering The Big Cheese and Caerphilly Comic-con. RecRock is looking to continue the success of the project starting with a cohort of new musicians in June. Chris Williams said: The most interesting vocational based course I have attended. Previously, employment in creative industries seemed out of my reach, but this course has allowed me to access experience in areas I might not have pursued. Another participant said: “Really great course, I wanted to delve deeper into the music production side of music and RecRock has allowed me to do this and work with some really inspired up and coming artists, it has also allowed me to host an open mic night which is something I love, its also allowed me to mingle with other artists and musicians which is fantastic, I…

Having joined the military in 1984, she spent the first ten years working in and around RAF airfields as an Air Traffic Controller before retiring as Group Captain and Air Traffic Management Force Commander, responsible for all RAF air traffic units in the UK and around the world after 28 years’ service. She held the position of interim Managing Director from September 2014 – December 2015, during which time the Airport saw a significant growth in passenger numbers, a new airline base, new services and successful delivery of major events plus further improvements to the terminal and airfield operations. The Working Women Forum are delighted to announce their first speaker of the 2017 series Michelle from Rose Innes Design on January 11 in the Tourist Information Centre Caerphilly. Michelle Rose-Innes worked in many different design roles around the world before setting up her own branding agency back home in Cardiff, Wales. She launched Rose-Innes Designs 10 years ago with a packaging design project for Sainsbury’s. Within a year she was designing for all top 5 of the supermarkets and needed to grow a team to manage the demand for new projects. The business now attracts successful brand, website and graphic design projects from a wide client base across the private, public and third sectors. Join Sleep Out and raise money to change the lives of homeless young people in Wales Imagine having no one to rely on, no one to trust. Imagine facing homelessness with no one to help and support you. Can you begin to imagine where you would go, what you would do? For thousands of young people in Wales, it’s something they don’t have to imagine. It’s the stark reality they face. Here’s Leah’s story: I’d had a pretty rough childhood. My father was in and out of prison and my mother became addicted to drugs soon after I was born. As a result, I was taken into care before I was a year old. I moved from placement to placement, never really settling in, never really trusting anyone or feeling like I belonged anywhere. My mum committed suicide just a few days before I was 17 and I couldn’t cope. I couldn’t stand the latest family I was with and I didn’t know where I was going. I came to Llamau broken and angry.  Sandra, my support worker, listened to me and dealt with my behaviour as I struggled to deal with my mum’s death. She was the first person that actually heard what I had to say. She helped me grieve for my mother. I’ve just moved out of the Llamau project after two years, and I’m a different person. Sandra encouraged me to go to Learning 4 Life to get my confidence back and soon after I got a a qualification in Childcare and Health & Social Care at…
