Beautician Opens Salon in Her Home Town A local beautician Donna Parker has realised her dream of owning her own business by opening a new beauty salon in Bargoed town centre. ‘Donna’s Beauty Cwtch‘ is located in Hanbury Road opposite the library and offers a range of beauty treatments.   Donna said: “I have 18 years of experience in the beauty industry and my dream was always to open a salon in Bargoed as its my home town. We’ve only been open a short time but the response from customers has been fantastic”

Craft network searches Hill and Valley for new members! A Caerphilly-based network is extending its reach for new artists and crafters and changing its name to boot! Formerly known as Caerphilly Creatives, the group is re-branding to acknowledge the delivery of Cwm a Mynydd (Hill and Valley), a project that has received funding through the Welsh Government Rural Communities – Rural Development Programme 2014-2020, which is funded by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development and the Welsh Government, across not only Caerphilly but also the ‘Llanhilleth and Cwm Wards of Blaenau Gwent. The aim of the group is to promote the work of crafters and artists found across both counties and as a result, the newly branded ‘Cwm a Mynydd Creatives’ are on the look out for new members with a view to this year’s proposed  ‘Arts Week’ and other exciting events and opportunities during 2016. Community Project Expands in Caerphilly Town Centre The LoveCaerphilly community project is expanding into a vacant café situated next door to its current premises at the top of Cardiff Road. The LoveCaerphilly Family Coffee House is scheduled to open on Valentines Day (14th February) and is the latest phase of the outreach project which works with local families to provide help and support running groups and courses including: Parent and Baby Groups, Parent and Toddler Groups, Kids Clubs and Finance Management / Healthy Living courses.   Project Manager Jeremy Davey said: “The new coffee house will support our groups and courses; our aim is to provide the people we are supporting with the very best facilities at the heart of their community. Wales Retail Relief Business Rate Scheme Ends Soon Local businesses in the Caerphilly County Borough area are being urged by the council to claim up to £1,500 in business rate relief by 31 March 2016. The Wales Retail Relief Business Rate Scheme was introduced by Welsh Government in 2014 and has been continued through 2015/16. The grant assistance applies to qualifying occupied retail premises with a rateable value of £50,000 or less, that are wholly or mainly providing a service to visiting members of the public. Officers from Caerphilly County Borough Council posted application forms during August 2015 to qualifying shops, restaurants, cafés and drinking establishments encouraging them to take advantage of the financial support on offer. Business who are already receiving other forms of rate relief, such as small business rate relief can apply, however, the amount of relief will be capped to the amount of rates actually payable. Cllr Ken James, Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Planning & Sustainability, said: “It is great that we are able to support this Welsh Government initiative as a council and that our local businesses have the opportunity to grow their businesses further when facing difficult financial times.”   For more information please visit the Wales retail relief scheme section or call us on 01443 863006.     Original Article

Still Blooming in Caerphilly after 60 Years! This year S. Jones Florist celebrates 60 years in Caerphilly town centre. Located in Cardiff Road the family run business is now run by the 3rd generation of the Jones family.   Neil Jones who runs the business with his brother Anthony commented: “In the last 60 years Caerphilly has changed a lot, but the business my grandfather built is still here. My brother and I are proud that our business is an independent greengrocer and florist that offers great customer service and we would like to thank all our customers for their loyalty over the years”

New Burger King Store to Open in Caerphilly Town Centre On Saturday 6th February Burger King opens its new restaurant in Caerphilly town centre.     The 48 seat restaurant, which is located in the Castle Court Shopping Centre opposite Boots, is only the second in the UK in the new ‘garden grill’ style and will create between 25-30 jobs for local people.

Pubwatch Gets Ready to Tackle Six Nations Caerphilly Pubwatch is getting ready for one of its busiest times of years as the Six Nations rugby tournament starts. The aim of the scheme is to work together to make Caerphilly a safe place for people to come and enjoy in the evening. Since it started in 2013, the Pubwatch scheme in Caerphilly has seen a reduction of instances of violence both towards staff and customers. The scheme currently has 7 people who have been banned from licensed premises in Caerphilly for various incidents. The bans vary from 6 months to 5 years. Chair of Caerphilly Pubwatch Danni Stephens – Licensee of Weatherspoon’s ‘The Malcolm Uphill’ said: “The atmosphere in the towns pubs for the Six Nations match’s is always fantastic and at Pubwatch we are working together as licences to ensure that people enjoy this years tournament in a safe and friendly environment” Caerphilly Pubwatch is a partnership between Gwent Police, Caerphilly County Borough Council and involves six licensed premises in Caerphilly town centre – Wetherspoons, Courthouse, Caerphilly Social Club, Irish Tymes, Kings Arms and Municipal Club.
